A proud native of Ville Platte, Louisiana, Mr. Tommy Jones brings more than 20 years of dedicated service in public education to his new role as Facilitator of the Washington Career and Technical Education Center Expansion Campus. With a distinguished background in leadership, student advocacy, athletics, and social-emotional learning, Mr. Jones is well-positioned to lead this exciting new chapter in workforce development and technical education for St. Landry Parish.
Mr. Jones holds a Bachelorâs Degree in Education and a Masterâs Degree in Educational Leadership from Southern University & A&M College. Over the course of his career, he has served as a classroom teacher (4 years), assistant principal (13 years), school athletic director (6 years), basketball coach (8 years), and most recently, district-level Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator (3 years) for the Evangeline Parish School District.
As SEL Coordinator, Mr. Jones championed district-wide initiatives that enhanced student support services and promoted emotional wellness for both students and staff. He presented at the SREB School Improvement Conference and led professional development focused on sustainable SEL practices. His leadership also brought the EPSD Special Olympics Program to life, offering inclusive year-round opportunities in sports such as bowling, cornhole, and track & fieldâearning him recognition from Special Olympics Louisiana.
Passionate about community wellness, Mr. Jones partnered with One Telemed and Aetna Better Health to offer virtual mental health services to underserved areas. He also secured grant funding to promote physical fitness and healthy living in elementary schools, connecting nutrition education and physical activity to long-term health outcomes.
In 2023, Mr. Jones joined the St. Landry Parish School District as Assistant Principal of North Central High School. His leadership quickly made a powerful impression, earning awards for outstanding dedication and commitment to the schoolâs mission and student success.
Athletically, Mr. Jones has a celebrated coaching record, including three District Coach of the Year honors, six Parish Coach of the Year awards, and eight playoff appearances, with his teams reaching the quarterfinals four times and the state semifinals once.
Beyond the school walls, Mr. Jones is a passionate community advocate. He has served on the Ville Platte Recreation Board, the Evangeline Parish Solid Waste Commission, and the Ville Platte Boys & Girls Club. He is an active member of both the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) and the Louisiana Association of Principals.
Now, as Facilitator of the Washington Career and Technical Education Center Expansion Campus, Mr. Jones is focused on empowering students with real-world skills, career readiness, and confidence to thrive in both college and the workforce.
