Known as the "Father of Black Psychology," Sumner became the first Black person to earn a Ph.D. in psychology in 1920. A skilled Air Force pilot and Ph.D. holder in physical chemistry, Lawrence was selected for the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program in 1967. Though he tragically passed away before going to space, his legacy paved the way for future Black astronauts like Guion Bluford and Mae Jemison. 🎶 St. Landry Parish Honor Band Highlights 🎶 The St. Landry Parish Honor Band was held on Saturday, February 1, at the Opelousas Senior High School Auditorium. This special event showcased the top band students from every middle and high school in the parish, with an incredible guest performance by the Lawtell Recorder Group! The event kicked off with a Friday evening rehearsal, leading to an outstanding public performance on Saturday, where each group displayed their talent and hard work. 🎼 Congratulations to our MACA students who represented us with pride: High School: Jalacy P., Kaydie O., Alyssa T., Gabriella H., Savannah T., Bailey R., Ladarrian R., Roman C.
