Mrs. Dana Reed
Welcome to MACA’S Theatre Department where the theatrically-inclined students have the opportunity to perform and create high-caliber theatrical productions, study stage, acting techniques, and learn the disciplines of the theatrical actor. We offer studies for the beginning student of 7th grade and carry the student to become Louisiana State Talented in Theatre before graduation.
There are two ways to gain entrance into MACA’s Theatre Department. The first is through a regular audition set up after application documents are completed, signed and turned into MACA’s office. The regular audition includes but is not limited to a series of theatrical games to calm any nerves and a one-page monologue to be memorized (with only a copy brought with you for reference) and performed. The monologue will be performed without use of written page in hand and should be in character. The second way is to become state-talented before applying to MACA. State-talented students must still fill out application and do their audition before me in class.
The MACA Theatre Department performs for community events, business functions and at the Opelousas Little Theatre as well as productions here at MACA. Some of the extracurricular events include the characters at the Opelousas Children’s Christmas Parade, Drive-By Poetry for the Festival of Words performed at Raising Canes, Benny’s Supermarket and Java Square, Opelousas General Hospital volunteer functions and Senior Village Nursing Home. We perform in the district and state drama rallies and MACA’s Holiday Arts Gala as well as the theatre-sponsored MACA Haunted Halls at Halloween time, Black History and Veterans Day functions.
Under the direction of Dana Reed, students learn how to perform in many different types of plays, including drama, comedy, and other genres of performance. Check out our performances and let us entertain you!
To be an actor, you have to have a certain amount of madness in you.
