Attention School Communities: Eclipse Safety Alert!

With the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024, we want to ensure the safety of all our students, staff, and families. While witnessing this celestial event can be an exciting and educational experience, it's crucial to remember the potential dangers associated with viewing the eclipse without proper eye protection.

Looking directly at the sun during an eclipse can cause serious eye damage or even permanent blindness. Even if the sun is partially covered, its rays remain harmful to the naked eye.

Here's how you can stay safe during the eclipse:

  1.  If you must be outdoors at the time of the event, avoid looking at the eclipse with the naked eye.

  2. Supervise children: Ensure that children are supervised at all times during the eclipse to prevent them from looking directly at the sun without protection.

  3. Watch online or on TV: Consider watching live streams of the eclipse online or on television, where you can safely enjoy the event without risking eye damage.

We encourage all members of our SLP community to take these precautions seriously and enjoy the eclipse safely. Let's make sure this awe-inspiring phenomenon is remembered for its wonder, not for any unnecessary harm.

Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
