Dear Parents,

During these trying times, our country and community are facing many unprecedented challenges with the coronavirus.

The unexpected closure of school was a decision that was not taken lightly. The leaders of our district and state believe this is in the best interest of the health and well-being of our communities. We must accept there is a new standard for what we call normal operation during these times.

However, high standards and expectations for each student is required in regard to academic performance, co-curricular participation, and responsible citizenship are the foundation of our school. It is with pride that we hold these high standards and ask each of our students to commit to maintaining the extraordinary record of achievement and contribution that has been the legacy of Washington Elementary School.

We still expect full participation from our students in our academic and co-curricular programs and a willingness to act responsibly as an individual within our educational environment. Whether that learning environment be that of a virtual format, traditional on-site format, or hybrid format (both traditional and virtual). These are the factors that will ensure all Washington Elementary students have a successful and enjoyable year.

Our Washington Elementary Staff will continue to offer a positive and caring atmosphere designed to help all of students thrive and believe:

• Education is certainly worth the commitment of time, money, and effort.
• Education is a cooperative effort of parents, students, staff and community.
• All students are unique individuals with varied interest and abilities.
• All students can be successful learners based on their ability.
• All students have a right to be educated to the fullest potential.
• Individual guidance is critical to maximize each students’ potential.
• Students should be encouraged to explore their potential.
• High expectations directly affect performance.
• Every individual has worth and deserves respect and dignity.
• A nurturing safe environment that is conducive to learning.

In conclusion, I wish you all a positively powerful and wonderful school year. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and know that my door is always open. I can be contacted at blavergne@slpsb.org or (337) 826-3393.

I am honored to serve as your principal.

Educationally Yours,

Brenda Lavergne
