Eunice Elementary Reminders: ** Monday, Sept. 6th - School is closed for Labor Day. ** Start your student on the path to learning independence: Parents often want to know the best ways to help their children with schoolwork. One of the most important things you can do is to teach your child to become an independent learner. Elementary schoolers are often assigned to solve problems and find and study facts. As they do this work, they practice their skills and reinforce their knowledge. To support your child’s effort, first have him: 1. Try to answer all the questions by himself. He should start with the ones he knows the answers to, and skip over any that give him problems. 2. Go back and think again about the questions he couldn’t answer the first time around. Only after he does this should your child ask you for help. If he does remember that your goal is not just for him to put down the right answer. You want him to learn how to get the right answer for himself. So if your child asks you how to spell constitution, don’t rattle off the spelling. Instead, ask, “Where could you find that?” Point him to a dictionary or his social studies packet. Demonstrating how to find information not only helps him learn facts now, it also prepares him to learn more in the future.

The following are two very important reminders. 1. Bus riders have assigned seats on their bus. Students MUST sit in their assigned seat. If a behavior report is turned in because they refuse to sit in their seat, they will be suspended from the bus. 2. Students MUST wear a mask correctly on the bus. If a behavior report is turned in because they refuse to wear their mask, they will be suspended from the bus. 3. Using a cell phone while in the car rider line is against the law. There is a sign in green print reminding you about this law on 9th street. Drivers are distracted while on the phone which can be very dangerous for our students. Out of concern for the safety of our students and to avoid being reported to EPD, thanks in advance for not being on your phone while in the car rider line.

Students will join their class in Google Classroom on the Chromebooks. If you have not yet sent in your completed Loan Agreement, it is very important that you send it in immediately. Students will not be issued a Chromebook until this is completed. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

What: Program intro/announcement email From: Mary B. Dupre, Principal To: Families When: Before testing begins Subject: Introducing a new COVID-19 testing program for Eunice Elementary School Hello Eunice Elementary School Families. As we begin this new school year, the health and safety of all students and staff remains our top concern. I’m excited to announce that St. Landry Parish School Board} is starting a voluntary weekly COVID-19 testing program to help keep our school community safe and allow us to have regular in-person learning. Through this program, we will offer the highest quality PCR testing available at no cost to teachers, staff, students, and families. Keeping school buildings open depends our ability to identify and take immediate action to address COVID-19 concerns on our campus. By identifying infections early, weekly testing will help keep transmission low and students in school for in-person learning, sports, and extracurricular activities. This program will allow Eunice Elementary School to test both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals and reduce the risk to our school community. Each week a trained healthcare team will visit to conduct the testing program using a choice between short nasal or oral swabs. The samples will be couriered to the CLIA-certified laboratory and tested using PCR technology. Results will be delivered by text or email usually before the next morning and any individuals with positive tests will be contacted by our team about next steps. You’ll receive an email in the coming weeks with information on how to register and what to expect when testing. Every additional person tested reduces the chance of the virus spreading in our community so it is my hope that all our families will take advantage of the opportunity to help our school be as safe as it can possibly be and to remain open without any disruption. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to 225-910-8308 or visit the website www.k12testing.com. We deeply appreciate your partnership and your commitment to keeping our school community safe and healthy. Mary B. Dupre, Principal

Good evening parents. I want to make sure you are all aware that we do not allow students to use water fountains due to Covid risks. We do have water bottle refilling stations, so send each student with a water bottle that can be refilled during the day. This can be a regular bottle of water as long as the cap can be sealed so there are no spills. Thanks

Ok guys, I’m working on the PBIS/TLIM calendar and when it’s finished being updated, I’ll save it to the 21-22 faculty folder on the shared drive. For the first week, the skills are the following: Classroom/playground/Restroom Expectation: Review the daily routines of the Classroom/Playground/Restroom procedures and policies. Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind!
