Dear Parents, Guardians, Community Members and Students,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Opelousas Junior High School, Home of the Fighting Tigers!  I am so excited that you have taken the opportunity to visit our website.  We have so many great things going on at OJHS. Opelousas Junior High School serves approximately 430 students in grades 7th and 8th grade.  Our goal is to provide an educational experience that will not only challenge students, faculty and staff members but also empower them to become continuous learners in today’s global society.  Our school’s vision is “to provide a nurturing and safe learning environment for the students as well as to promote academic excellence through the shared support of the community, faculty, students and stakeholders.”

We at Opelousas Junior High School follow a set of shared values that guide our beliefs about teaching and learning.  We embark on this new school year with enthusiasm and encouragement for new opportunities that will provide our instructional program and school community with a great vision.  We truly believe that all children can learn and deserve a safe and productive school experience.  We know that high expectations for student achievement combined with adequate support and intervention will result in academic proficiency and growth.   At Opelousas Junior High School, our focus is to help students become successful citizens in today’s global society.  We understand that teaching and professional development must be intentional and purposeful for students and teachers to grow.  We know that it’s important to model respect and foster a kind and caring school environment where students feel valued and appreciated.  Our Special Education program and school-wide interventions allow us to meet the specific needs of all students.  Lastly, we believe in building partnerships between school, home and community.  Through these shared values, students experience an education that is long-lasting.  

However, you as parents are the most critical part of our school's success. Your support provides the foundation for students to come ready to learn. I strongly encourage you to be an active part of your child's education by making sure they get to school regularly.  Academics requires practice. You will find your child's teacher is your best resource and I encourage you to build a positive partnership with them.

I am excited to meet the students and I pray that everyone had a great summer.  My goal is to continue to work diligently with teachers, parents and students to see Opelousas Junior High grow to its full potential.  This school year will be a year full of fun and learning that will help our students to reach new heights.
